Carrol K. Gunderson, 96, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 15, 2018 at First Lutheran Church. Carrol was born December 24, 1921 in Union County, South Dakota to Alfred and Hannah (Knudson) Gunderson. He farmed in Union County. He married Marie Lundgren on August 8, 1941 in Ponca, Nebraska. He was in the United States Army stationed in India.
He moved to Sioux City where he worked for Lane’s Bottling for 25 years.
He was past President of First Lutheran and worked for the church as custodian. He rebuilt cars for many years.
He was a kind hearted person who will be greatly missed. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, playing Skipbo with his sister, Gloria and friends.
Carrol is survived by his daughters, Jane (Ed) Groendyk of North Sioux City, South Dakota; his sons, James (Elaine) Gunderson of Denison, Iowa and Roger Gunderson of Ventura, California; four grandchildren, Leisa Fox, Greg Gunderson, Stephanie Debauche, Stacy Geesaman; nine great grandchildren; step-daughters, Sharon Shook and Sandy Larson; step-sons, Doug Sogn and Ron Sogn; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Gloria Lundgren; sisters-in-law, Doris (Ernie) Petty and LaVonne Lundgren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie and his second wife, Vivian; 3 brothers; two sisters; step-daughter, Wanda.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Care Initiatives Hospice.
