Rex A. “Brub” Barber, 59, of Sioux City, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 16 at 11:00 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rex was born on June 1, 1959 in Sioux City to Rex D. and Jeanette (Kaufman) Barber. He graduated from high school and earned his associated degree from W.I.T.C.C. Rex was united in marriage to Jill McCarthy on June 5, 1976. To this union they had four children. Rex worked at IBP for several years and later worked on his father’s farm. The last several years he had managed rental properties around Sioux City. Rex loved spending time with his family, especially his kids, grandkids and his faithful dog Macie. Those left to honor his memory include his father Rex D. Barber, Mapleton, IA; children: Amy Marie (Lance) Focht, Sgt. Bluff, IA, Rex Shawn (Jenny) Barber, Sioux City, Melissa Ann (Jeff) Miller, Sioux City, Christopher James (Jenni Newton) Barber, Sioux City; grandchildren: Megan and Ella Focht, Allison and Ethan Barber, Nick, Avery and Briley Miller, Aurora Koch; siblings: Susan Dather, Sioux City, Tim (Patti) Barber Sioux City, Corinne (Sam) West, Florence, TX, Dominic(Misty) Barber, Smithland, IA, Bill Barber, Mapleton, IA; uncle, Denny Barber, Bronson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog Macie. He is preceded in death by his mother and his brother in law Kenny Dather. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to all who helped Brub, especially to Denny Barber.
