Erwin G. Gould, 94, of Sioux City passed away Friday, August 11, 2018, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Neil Peck, L.S. officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
Erwin, the son of George and Sadie Scott, was born February 6, 1924 in Sanborn, Iowa. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Sioux City.
Mr. Gould enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940, joining the 1st Armor Brigade of the 1st Armored Division in WWII. He fought valiantly through the end of the war, earning many honors that included the Purple Heart of Valor.
Shortly after returning home from WWII in 1945, Erwin became a firefighter for the Sioux City Fire Department. Throughout his 39 years of service, he cherished the comradery of his fellow firefighters. In 1984, Mr. Gould retired from the department as Assistant Fire Chief.
During that time, he met Arline Schmako. They fell in love and married February 6, 1953, in Plattsmouth, NE. When he was not dedicating his service to his country or city, Erwin relished spending time with the love of his life, Arline, and their family. Mr. Gould was a talented wood-worker and photographer. He also had a love for traveling and a passion for learning that lasted his entire life.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Bruce Hansen of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Robert (Salama) Hahn of Jacksonville, FL, Debbie Yates, Mark (Michelle) Hahn, Kris Hahn all of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his daughter, Gloria Hansen; his brother, Lyle Gould; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild in infancy.
