Fredric J. Frey

   Fredric (Fred) John Frey of Sioux City, IA passed away, Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Sunrise Retirement Home in Sioux City. 

   Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, August 13, 2018, at the First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Pastor Douglas Dill officiating.  On August 12, 2013, a visitation, with family present, will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Meyers Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.  A 7:00 pm prayer service will follow.  Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com

   Fred was born on November 11, 1935, the son of Arnold and Marie Frey in Sibley, Iowa.  He graduated high school in Sibley in 1953.  He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.  He attended Morningside College in 1953, re-enrolled in 1956 and graduated in 1958.

   On October 28, 1956, Fred was united in marriage to Floanne D. Meehlhause.

   Fred began his life-long career at Great West Casualty and Joe Morten Insurance in 1958.  He initially worked as a commercial underwriter.  In 1971, Fred was promoted to vice president, underwriting.  In 1980, Fred was elevated to senior vice president of operations and president in 1983.  He was appointed vice chairman in 1990 and then chairman of the board for Great West in 1992 and retired in that position in 1998.  Fred also served on the Board of Directors for Bituminous Insurance, Morningside College, The Boys & Girls Home of Nebraska and Waco (New Perspectives). 

   He enjoyed golfing, time with family and friends and spending winters in Arizona after his retirement.

   Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years Floanne D. Frey of Sioux City; daughter Sheryl (Jon) Sandage of McCook Lake, SD; son Michael (Lisa) Frey of Dakota Dunes, SD; son Gary (Jeanette) Frey of Sioux City; sister in law Marlene Frey of Spencer; six grand- children; three great grand-children; six nieces and nephews; several cousins and many friends.

   He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Franklyn Frey.
