Twila was born January 3, 1956 on a farm near Estherville, IA, the daughter of James Preston & Marilyn (Mino) Preston. Twila’s love for God and her family was evident in all that she did. She enjoyed hosting family and friends in her home, and traveling to see her grandchildren. Twila spent endless hours in her vegetable and flower gardens in the summer months and enjoyed wintering plants in her greenhouse. She and Gary enjoyed vacations together and trying out new biking trails. A friend to many and a stranger to none, Twila’s zest for life and love of conversation are things we will remember fondly. Whether the department store clerk or a stranger in the grocery store line, Twila had made a new friend by the end of the exchange.
Twila graduated from Swea City High School in 1974 and graduated from Patricia Stevens College in 1975. On April 3, 1976 she was united in marriage to Gary DeRocher at the Methodist Church in Swea City, Iowa. She started her working career at Postal Finance in Sioux City, later working at the Plymouth County Farm Service Agency, the Hinton Co-op, Terra Industries, and retired from the Producers Livestock in Sioux City. Twila was also a Mary Kay consultant for many years. Twila worshiped at the Adaville United Methodist Church for 40 years and held many offices there. Other activities included Liberty Township Clerk, ISU Master Gardener volunteer, and Merrill Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband Gary DeRocher; two children, Tara (Lee) Bird of Des Moines, and Heather (Eric) Miller of Orlando; five grandchildren, Avery and Makenna Bird, Josiah, Tobias, and Levi Miller; her mother Marilyn Preston; two brothers, Dallas Preston of Trenton, MO, and Leo Preston of McMinnville, OR one sister Debra (John) Nece of Wichita, KS, and 18 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Preston. Memorial in Twila's honor may be directed to the Sioux City Gospel Mission.
