Francis Phillip Powell, 88, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018.
A memorial prayer service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Following the service, there will be a luncheon and a time of fellowship at the funeral home.
Francis “Babe” was born on February 21, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa to Minnie and Johnny Powell. He was raised and graduated from high school in Mapleton, Iowa. In 1950, he entered the Army and served his country for 2 years. He married Verna Reynolds in 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. Francis returned from the military and worked as a butcher in Siouxland for the next 40 years. He loved being with his family, and brought them many hours of happiness with his stories, jokes, and love.
Francis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Verna; his sister, Dorothy Olson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack(Georgie) Reynolds; sister-in-law, Helen Meyer; son Stephen Powell; daughter, Ellen Vakulskas; son Timothy (Dawn) Powell; grandchildren: Kelli (Bob) Sayler, Jessica (James) Randazzo; TJ (Jen) Powell; Kaitlyn Dostal, McKenna Powell; great grandchildren Nathan, Natalie, Carmine, Luca, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
