Willard E. Schindel, 90, of Sioux City passed away Sunday July 22, 2018, at home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Nativity Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Burial with military honors will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Willard Schindel was born on January 10, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was the son of Earl and Grace (Bristow) Schindel. Will graduated from Merrill High School in 1945. Willard served in the Army during 1945-1946 and again from 1950-1952 and was a member of the Merrill American Legion. During WWII, he spent time in Germany in the European Theatre. He met the love of his life and was united in marriage to Phyllis Arens on January 9, 1954.

After living a few years in Sioux Falls, Will and his family moved to Sioux City in 1960. Willard was a salesman for Kraft Foods and Folgers Coffee and retired after over 30 years in the food industry. Will loved spending time with his family and friends, riding his Harley Davidson, Boston Terriers, and outdoor activities. In his later years he loved traveling, visiting family and friends, going to Cardiac Rehab, and having coffee with friends at Sunkist Bakery.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Schindel, of Sioux City; his children, Karen (Mike) Nolting of South Sioux City, Connie (Jim) Schuver of West Bend and Doug (Judy) Schindel of Cedar Falls; and grandchildren, Justin (Sheila), Jason, Jennifer, Jeremy (Traci), Christine, Joshua (Jessica), Michael and Matthew; great grandchildren, Karlie, Kellen, Averie, Grace, Grant, and Kylee; sibling Adrienne (Keith) Branum of Merrill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Will was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Grace; and his sister, Beverly.
