Anita R. Wendt, 82, of Sioux City passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at a local care center.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church with Reverend Ralph Shorey officiating. Visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, July 24, 2018 from 5-7 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Logan Park Cemetery.
Anita was born June 27, 1936 in Madison, NE, the daughter of Arnold and Nettie (Kalmer) Freudenburg. She was raised in Madison and Norfolk, graduating from Norfolk High School. Anita attended Wayne State College and received her bachelor’s degree in teaching.
On August 10, 1958, Anita married Dr. Roger F. Wendt in Norfolk, NE. The couple then moved to Sioux City and Anita taught for the Sioux City Public School System until making the decision to stay home with her family. Anita taught bridge classes at Western Iowa Tech Community College for 40+ years.
After Roger’s retirement, he was elected State Representative and Anita acted as his clerk. She also served as chief tour guide and bridge instructor at the State Capitol throughout the years of their service. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, PEO, Retired Educators, Woodbury Country Democrats, Girls of ’68, The Red Hat Society, and numerous bridge groups. Anita’s family and friends always came first.
Time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, family, and friends was most cherished. She enjoyed gatherings of all sizes and special occasions, often serving as the “official” photographer for gatherings.
Survivors include her children: Dr. Todd Wendt and his wife, Betty of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter, Nanette Beller and her husband, Paul of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Clarke Beller and his wife Kayla, Maggie Heuerman and her husband Adam, and Blake Wendt; a sister Arnetta and her husband Robert McDaniel of Norfolk, NE; a sister-in-law Marion Pleskac of Lincoln, NE; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband Roger, her parents Arnold and Nettie Freudenburg, brothers-in-law Donald Wendt and Marvin Kramer, and a sister-in-law Lois Kramer.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in Anita’s name to the Sioux City Public School Foundation or Faith Lutheran Church.
