James Francis Richards, 66, of Sioux City passed away Thursday July 19th, 2018 at home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ponca, NE, with family present at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City. Father Andrew Sohm will officiate.

Jim Richards was born on May 30, 1952 to Thomas and Monica (Shanahan) Richards in Sioux City, IA. In 1960, Jim and his family moved to Ventura, CA, where they lived until 1968, when they moved to Ponca, NE. Jim graduated from Ponca High School in 1971.

He was united in marriage to Gayle Siljenberg on June 12, 1993 in Sioux City, IA.

Jim was a conductor for 40 years with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He retired in 2012, at which time he pursued his lifelong passion of becoming a pilot. Jim also loved spending time with friends and family, classic cars - especially his Camaro, motorcycles, camping, reading and traveling.

Survivors include his wife Gayle Richards of Sioux City; mother Monica Richards of Ponca, NE; his children: Carla (Mike) Kreegar of Overland Park, KS; Jon (Angie) Richards of Polk City, IA; and Katie (Jeff) Miller of Brandon, SD; stepchildren: Benny (Crystal) Siljenberg of Littleton, CO and Leah Siljenberg of Dakota City, NE; and grandchildren: Noma, Anika, Kaitlyn, Jacson, Hailey, Landyn, Aubree, Willie, Mickey, Jack, Jace, and Chaz; 5 siblings: Helen (Rick) Jensen of Freemont, NE; Mark (Vicki) Richards of Exira, IA; Gary (Kari) Richards of Thornton, CO; Marcella (Rick) Schweers of Ponca, NE; and Susan (Blake) Bostwick of Ponca, NE; brother-in-law Terry (Anne) Cutsinger of Savannah, GA; sister-in-law Linda Cutsinger of McCook Lake, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Thomas Richards.
