Robert Owen Mathison, Sr.
Robert “Bob” O. Mathison, Sr., 84, of Sioux City died Friday, July 13, 2018, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Robert “Bob” Owen Mathison, Sr., son of Clarence and Gladys Julia (Metcalf) Mathison, was born July 1, 1934 in Sioux City. Bob was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools.
On August 18, 1954, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on August 18, 1956 in Chicago. On December 7, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Constance L. Metcalf in Elk Point, SD and this union was blessed with five children. The family made their home in Sioux City. Bob worked for Younkers, then was a supervisor at the packing plant and owned and operated Bob’s Lighthouse I and II until his retirement.
Bob enjoyed gambling and traveling with his wife. He also enjoyed cooking, grilling and ran several Vegas Nights for charitable organizations. Bob was a hero to his three siblings.
Bob is survived by three sons: Robert O. (Marcie) Mathison, Jr., Ronald A. Mathison and Ryan K. Mathison; two daughters: Deb L. Elgert and Julia M. Mathison; 18 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; one brother, Richard E. Mathison; and two sisters: Delores F. Kennedy and Shirley A. Pflanz.
He was preceded in death by his parents. His wife, Constance L., preceded him on July 18, 2011.
Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
