Jules F. “Brownie” Bay, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany Parish St. Boniface worship site. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday, July 15, 2018 with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Jules was born March 25, 1927 in Akron, Iowa; he was the son of Axel and Margaret (Gleason) Bay. He graduated from Akron High School. After working for a short time, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Montrose.
Jules married Darlene B. Higgins on April 18, 1949 in Sioux City. They had 65 years together. Brownie and Darlene loved to go dancing at the Eagles Club and cut a rug almost every weekend.
He worked for the Sioux City Fire Department for 18 years before retiring due to injuries. After retirement, he worked for Schoenemen’s Lumber and had several other odd jobs.
He was a long time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He enjoyed working Sunday night Bingo games, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends visiting and creating new memories.
But most of all, family held a special place in his heart; his boys and their wives, grandkids and great grandkids.
Jules is survived by four sons, Douglas Bay (Denise), Timothy Bay (Kathy), Larry Bay (Joanne) all of Sioux City and Gregory Bay (Barbara) of Elkhorn, NE; one sister, Claire Thuringer of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren: Ron Bay (Katie), Lindsey Tarno (Robbie), Heather Petersen, Brandon Petersen (Nicole), Austin Bay, Meghan Robertson, Mamie Combs, Mariha Combs, Mckenzi Bay, Dylan Bay, Lexi Bay and Emily Bay; brother-in-law Curt Hansen of Le Mars, IA; sister-in-law Shirley Lael of Hawarden, IA; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jules was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; son Ronald; five brothers; two sisters; and a grandson Tyler.
