Hugh O'Hara

Hugh Thomas O’Hara, 89, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 at his residence. 

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  Visitation will be Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com. 

Hugh was born December 19, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of James and Mary (Boyle) O’Hara.  At the age of 19, Hugh enlisted in the United States Army.  After being honorably discharged from the Army, Hugh moved to Sioux City, where he met and married June Treglia on April 22, 1950 in Sioux City.  To this union six children were born.  June preceded Hugh in death on March 5, 2000. 

Hugh worked various jobs, retiring as plant operator for Terra Chemicals after 20 years.  Hugh’s fun loving spirit and knack for singing made up tunes served him well throughout his life.  He was very positive and caring, and enjoyed his family, bowling, and a good Notre Dame game.  Hugh was such an avid Notre Dame fan, he even created his own version of the Fight Song.  He was a member of Blessed Sacrament and the Knights of Columbus. 

Hugh is survived by his children:  Teri Lux of Sioux City, Carla Trotter of Sioux City, Trish (Terry) Looney of Bedford, TX, Hugh (Teresa) O’Hara of Lewisville, TX, Mike (Donna) O’Hara of West Des Moines, IA, and Bryan (Mollie) O’Hara of Omaha, NE; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife June; 3 grandchildren:  Brandon, Sean, and Justin; 1 great grandchild:  Malik; a sister Mary; and 2 brothers:  Jimmy and John.
