Helen M. Ritz, 100, of Sioux City passed away July 2, 2018 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 6, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father Bill McCarthy officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 5-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M., a Rosary Service at 5:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen.
Helen was born September 10, 1917 in Oyens, IA, the daughter of William and Katherine (Ludwig) Tentinger. She attended Oyens and Remsen St. Mary’s School. Helen married Edward H. Ritz on December 5, 1937 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1957.
Helen worked at Johnson Biscuit Company and transferred to Interbake in North Sioux City. She volunteered at St. Boniface Bargain Center and Trinity Heights. Helen was a member of the Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Bargain Center Catholic Women’s League.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and telling stories about the olden days to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to help family can corn and cook for her family, and take care of her grandchildren. A favorite was her filled cookie jar of chocolate chip cookies and homemade jam.
Survivors include her children: Larry Ritz of Akron, IA, Margy (Bob) Huewe of Walker, MN, and Ronn (Dianne) Ritz of Ames, IA; 20 grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; three sisters: Phyllis (Jim) Boever of Davenport, IA, Paula (Gib) Schroeder of Remsen, IA, and Doris Rhuland of Le Mars, IA; and son in law Dennis Smith of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, two children in infancy; a daughter Karen Smith, daughter in law Ellen Ritz; three sisters: Mert Augustine, Rita Henke, and Lois Toups; two brothers: Irwin Tentinger and Roman Tentinger.
Helen always had a smile and will be sadly missed by those her knew her.
