Betty May Kragthorpe

February 17, 1929 — June 25, 2018

Betty May Kragthorpe, 89, of Sioux City gained her angel wings on June 25, 2018.

Abiding by her wishes, cremation will take place and private family services will be held.

Betty May, the daughter of John “Jack” and Alice (Doelz) Farber, was born February 17, 1929 in Oconomowoc, WI.

After graduating high school, she attended St. Olaf College and graduated from the University of Minnesota.  Betty worked as a med tech and later at the Sioux City Public Library as a reference desk librarian.

On June 16, 1951, Betty married Art Kragthorpe in Minneapolis, MN.  They made their home in North Dakota then moved to South Dakota and later to Sioux City where they raised their family.   Art passed away on March 24, 2006.

Betty enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, reading, knitting, and scrabble.   She baked lots of bread, cookies and made the most amazing lemon meringue pies.  Above all, she loved spending time with her family.  She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and was always available to help with their homework.  She enjoyed visiting her daughter’s at their businesses Jitters for coffee and donuts and Heart & Hand Dry Goods helping fold fat quarters.  She always looked forward to going to lunch with her grandsons.

Betty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

She is survived by two daughters and one son, Ann and Scott Brouillette, Paul Kragthorpe and Sarah Kragthorpe; and five grandchildren: Dan Brouillette, Zac and Kelly Brouillette, Eric and Graci Brouillette, Amanda and Justin Fojtik and Arlie Kragthorpe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art and a brother, Bob.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sioux City Public Library in Betty’s name.

Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
