Barrie R. Swift, 78 of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Pastor Kristine Stedje officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with Graveside Honors by the United States Navy Reserve. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 26th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at
www.meyerbroschapels.com Barrie was born on May 16, 1940 in Sioux City to Lowell and Frances (Tiberghier) Swift. He received his education in the Sioux City Schools, graduating with the Class of 1959 from Central High School. He served his country in the United States Navy before attending Western Iowa Tech for three years.
Barrie was in Sales for Bowman Distribution in Sioux City for 20 years. He married Sharon Schnepp on July 31, 1981. Following his retirement from sales in 2002, Barrie was a driver for Railroad Express, and was currently on vacation when illness took his life.
Barrie was a clown and was part of the Wrecking Crew associated with the Abu Bekr Shrine in Siouxland. He was a proud member of the First Lutheran Church. Barrie enjoyed fishing and found great joy in wood carving. He was a friend of Bill for over 35 years.
Barrie is survived by his son Mike (Kathy) Swift of Olathe, Kansas, daughter Christal (Will) Kitto, son Steven Swift, and daughter Stacey Rubio, all of Sioux City; brother Neal Swift and sister Sue Hardwood, both of Washington; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
