Gary R. Lyon

   Gary R. Lyon, 59, of Sioux City formerly of Norfolk, NE died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at his residence.

   Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with a prayer service at 7 p.m.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

   Gary, the son of Darrel and Marilyn (Schwartz) Lyon, was born June 23, 1958 in Norfolk, NE.  He graduated from Homer High School and then attended UNL for one year.  While at UNL, Gary’s claim to fame was waiting on Bob Devaney.

   On April 9, 1977, Gary was united in marriage to Carla Lile and this union was blessed with five children.  The family made their home in Hornick, IA.  Gary and Carla later divorced.

   Gary worked for Great Plains Supply, Hornick Coop Lumber and various other lumber and housing supply companies.  His most recent job was with Affiliated Foods.

   Gary loved to read and above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.  He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

   Gary is survived by four children: Brett (Alyssa) Lyon of Sioux City, Ashley (Brian) Bunce of Omaha, NE, Danny (Richelle) Lyon of Pleasant Hill, MO and Blake Lyon of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, Brenda (Jesse) Duerksen of Salix, IA; grandchildren: Kelsie Lyon (Corey Webster), Luke Lyon, Katelyn Bunce, Ayden Bunce, Sydney Bunce, Chloe Duerksen and Carson Duerksen; one great grandchild, Raelyn Webster; his father, Darrel Lyon of Madison, NE; three siblings: Mike Lyon (Katrina Grabbe) of Omaha, NE, Julie (Dave) Grimm of Fremont, NE and Janie Lyon of Homer, NE.

   Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Lyon and one son, Corey Lyon.
