Gail was born the daughter of Donald “Don” and Grayce (Palmer) Cotton on April 4, 1940 in Cresbard, South Dakota. She grew up in Cresbard and graduated from Cresbard High School. She obtained her elementary education degree from Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota and her Master’s degree in education from the University of South Dakota. From Gail’s first marriage, 2 children were born, Seth and Britany. Gail was, quite simply put, the BEST mother and grandmother. She married Reverend Laurice Streyffeler on December 29, 1995 in Sioux City.
Gail had a love for education and taught in the Sioux City Community Schools for over three decades. She was able to retire in 1996 but continued touching the lives of children in Sunday School and children’s sermon messages. Some of her greatest joys were with her own grandchildren. She had a twinkle in her eyes when they were near and she loved to spend time with them in the kitchen whipping up a batch of cookie dough or curling up with a book and reading with them.
Gail had a zest for travel, and she and Laurice were able to pursue adventure and opportunities on some wonderful trips both near and far. She was also a talent pianist and was able to share that gift with others throughout her life.
She was passionate about giving back to her community and did so at every opportunity. She was involved at both Trimble United Methodist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a member of P.E.O Chapter I.A. and also volunteered her time at Shesler Hall where she also served on the board.
Gail treasured her faith and family. She lived her faith on a daily basis and in the most unassuming of ways.
Gail is survived her husband, Rev. Laurice Streyffeler of Sioux City; children, Seth (Jennifer) Kirshman of Omaha and his children, Vayda, Kalli, and Kai; Britany (Doug) Speas of Camas, Washington and their children, Carson, Emerson, and Tate; Kurt (Laura) Streyffeler of Ft. Myers, Florida and their son, Luke; Laurie (John) Perry of Pittsford, New York and their children, David and Seth; and Lynn (Todd) Nordquist of Richwood, Ohio and their children, Samuel, Noah, Josiah, and Lydia; one sister, Donna Rae Cotton of Bothell, Washington. She also had 2 special nephews, Corey (Adrienne) Schlosser-Hall and their children Maya and Hannah of Bothell, Washington and Grant (Tara) Schlosser of St. Paul, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
