Rita A. Cooper, 77, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. with family present from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Rita was born the daughter of Burdett and Bernice (Jennings) O’Connor on August 9, 1940 in Beresford, South Dakota. Rita married Gene Cooper on September 2, 1961 in Elk Point, South Dakota. After their marriage, they made their home in Sioux City.
Rita worked for Marilyn Bagley for over 30 years.
She was a loving, caring, hard working woman. Spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest joy. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, crosswords, and cards.
Rita is survived by her children, Dana (Erica) Cooper of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, Rodney Cooper of Sioux City, Kelvin (Kristina) Cooper of Sioux City, and Jean (Craig) Cooper of Sioux City; two brothers, Larry O’Connor of Sioux City and Vernon O’Connor of Fargo, North Dakota; one sister, Sheila Jones of Magnolia, Minnesota; and 17 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; two brothers, Robert “Bobbie” and Patrick; one sister, Sharon; and one granddaughter, Courtney.
