David Samuel Sterling, 89, of Sioux City passed away peacefully in bed at home on Saturday, May 26th, 2018.
Services will be held 10:30 A.M., on Tuesday, May 29th at Congregation Beth Shalom. Rabbi Guy Greene Officiating. Burial will follow at Mt Carmel Cemetery.
David was born on February 22, 1929 in Carroll, Nebraska, the son of Nathan and Rose (Woskoff) Sterling. He graduated from Central High School. David attended Morningside College graduating magna kum lade in economics. He received his MBA at Kellogs School of Business at Northwestern in Chicago, IL.
David married Roberta Weiner on September 12, 1954 in Sioux City.
He served Stateside in Korean war in the Business Office, 1950-1952.
His chosen profession was a Certified Public Accountant, He started his own firm and later became the Senior Partner. He was involved in numerous Jewish Organizations throughout Sioux City. He had a passion for the support of the State of Israel. David was the B'nai B'rith President, President of Jewish Federation in Sioux City, and was a member of Shaare Zione Synogogue and then Congregation Beth Shalom. He was President of Northwest region Certified Public Accountants. David contributed to multiple organizations in the city such as: United Way, Boys and Girls Club of America, Morningside College and Northwestern University. He enjoyed educating others on personal finance and investments.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Roberta, Children: Deborah Sterling and husband Barry Fruchtman of Tucson, AZ and Michael Sterling and wife Susan of Emerald Hills, CA; Grandchildren: Barbara Sterling Mighdoll and husband Jason Elliot Mighdoll (San Francisco), Michael Fruchtman (San Jose, CA) and Robert Fruchtman (San Francisco). And numerous nieces and nephews.
