Joleene Kay (Kenagy) Nelson, 64 of Sioux City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at a Sioux City Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 21st, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be 4-7 P.M., with the family present 5-7 P.M. Sunday, May 20th, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Joleene was born in Mountain Home, Idaho to Gloria and Dwight Kenagy on August 23, 1953. In 1956, Joleene moved to Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Central High School in 1971. While in school, Joleene worked as a detasseler. Joleene worked at Wells Fargo Bank formerly known as Norwest Bank. She worked as Vice President of Wells Fargo at numerous branches. She retired in 2006.
Joleene did work as a CASA volunteer for many years, and was a strong advocate for Noah’s Hope. Joleene enjoyed gymnastics. She was an avid animal lover; she loved horses, horse shows, and dogs. She loved playing cards and dominos with friends and family. Joleene especially loved Christmas, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Joleene married Jack Nelson on August 28, 1971 in Sioux City, and together they had two children, Matthew Dwight Nelson and Sarah Jo Nelson. They divorced, but remained friends.
Joleene is survived by her children: Matthew (Kim) Nelson, and Sarah Nelson; grandchildren: Ashlyn, Mia, Alex, Austin, and Finley; brothers: Gene (Bonnie) Kenagy, and David (Danette) Kenagy; and many nieces and nephews.
Joleene is preceded in death by her parents.
