Stella Maria Kreekos, 105, of Sioux City, fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2018. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 18, 2018, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Father Lucas Rice will officiate. Visitation will be 5-6 P.M. Thursday, May 17, 2018, with a Trisagion service at 6:30 P.M., at the church.
Stella was born on May 2, 1913, in Nithavris Crete, Greece, to Maria (Alevizakis) and Georgios Pattakos. On July 10, 1936, she married George N. Kreekos, and the couple migrated to America from Greece in 1938.
Stella was one of the original families of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Sioux City, which is celebrating its 100th Anniversary on May 20th, 2018. She was also a member of Philoptochos, Daughter of Penelope, and the Cretan Club. She was a longtime volunteer, helping with the cooking and baking at the bazaars and festivals. In 1994, Stella received the “Most Valuable Dude Award” at BONANZA by living the BONANZA mission statement and showing her willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure every guest comes back to BONANZA, again and again.
Stella was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George, her parents, and her 7 siblings from Greece.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Michael (Liz) Kreekos, of Omaha, NE; 3 grandchildren: Anastasia (Anastasios) Tsatsakis, Stefania (Konstantinos) Maiakis, and Athanasia (Jason) Crowley; 4 great-grandchildren: Christianos, Stelianos, Blake, and Victoria.
