Gary L. Bohlke, 78, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at his residence.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Holy Cross Parish-St. Michael with Father David Hemann officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2018 from 5-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gary was born November 20, 1939 in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Alphonse and Apollonia (Arens) Bohlke. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1959 and then attended Business College. Gary enlisted in the Air National Guard and trained with the 185th Tactical Fighter Group for 27 years. Gary worked as a deputy clerk for District and Federal Courts for over 40 years, retiring in 2002.

He married Charlotte Schmedding on September 14, 1968 at St. Michael Catholic Church. To this union a son Shane was born.

Gary enjoyed fishing, many sports including basketball and racquetball, and had a true love for the outdoors. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #112 for 50+ years. Gary always had to be doing something, and loved to tinker on birdhouses and other outdoor projects. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who would always put others first, had an amazingly positive outlook on life, and a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife Charlotte Bohlke of Sioux City; son Shane Bohlke of Sioux City; siblings: Joyce Hansen of Luverne, MN, Judy (Tom) Mahaney of Sioux City; Paul (Shirlee) Bohlke of Sioux City, and Larry (Carolyn) Bohlke of San Jose, CA; sister-in-law Betty Bohlke of Sioux Falls, SD; mother-in-law Goldia Schmedding of Pender, NE, sisters-in-law Carole Tipton of Omaha, NE and Connie (Michael) Caniglia of Omaha, NE, and brother-in-law Larry (Jere) Schmedding of Walthill, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Dave Bohlke and Richard Bohlke, a nephew Wade Hansen, and father-in-law Emmett Schmedding.
