Samuel R. "Sam" Walsh

Samuel R. “Sam” Walsh, 76, of Sioux City, passed away Monday May 7, 2018. A Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Holy Cross Parish St. Michael. Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. with family present from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Rosary at 4 P.M. and a Vigil service at 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at South Creek Calvary Cemetery in rural Ponca, Nebraska. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Sam was born the son of Ralph and Pearl (Quinn) Walsh on September 16, 1941 in Ponca, Nebraska. He graduated from Waterbury High School in 1959. He moved to California for a few years before moving back to Sioux City to raise his family. He married Joan Dixon in 1963 and had three children. He later married the love of his life, Lynn Brenner in 2002.

Sam worked at Metz Baking Company for 30 years. He also sold real estate for ten years.

He enjoyed dancing, music, playing cards, and golfing. He volunteered for hospice and drove for the blood bank for several years. He also took great pride in supporting the Carmelites and the St. Joseph Indian School. Sam was a kind man who never met a stranger. He had a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin.

Sam is survived by his wife, Lynn Walsh of Sioux City; three children, John (Sharon) Walsh of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Erin Doty of Sioux City, and Suzy (Richard) Mrla of Sioux City; two step-children, Timothy Brenner of San Antonio, Texas and Mindy (Scott) Phlanz of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Carmelite Monastery or St. Joseph Indian School.
