Kenneth M. Paltz, 82, of Sloan, IA formerly of Sioux City died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center.
Funeral and Masonic services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) in Sioux City with Pastor Steve Jewett officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Kenneth was born February 11, 1936, in Sioux City, IA, to Joseph and Hazel (Burgett) Paltz. He attended schools in Sioux City and received his GED while serving in the U.S. Navy.
Kenneth met his future wife, Norma Renkel, of South Sioux City, NE, in 1953. While home on leave, from the U.S. Navy, Kenneth and Norma were married September 9, 1955, in Sioux City and moved to California. The family returned to Sioux City in 1957, where Kenneth worked for the Great Northern Railroad and later for the City of Sioux City. In 1967, Kenneth returned to Naval Service and was sent to Vietnam for two years. Kenneth retired from the U.S. Navy SeaBees on September 30, 1983 with 25 years of service.
Kenneth was a member of Attica Masonic Lodge #502, Sloan, IA; Scottish Rite, Sioux City; Abu Bekr Shriners, Sioux City; Fleet Reserve #276, Omaha, NE; The Retired Enlisted Assoc., Washington D.C.; and the U.S. Naval Memorial in Washington D.C.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy and husband Robin Goudy of Fremont, NE; son, Perry Paltz and wife Jan Nierling of Mason City, IA; daughter-in-law, Patty Paltz of Washington; four grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren two sisters: Phyllis Bobier of South Sioux City, NE and Joan Lenius of Oelwein, IA.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma on April 23, 2013; a son, Thomas Paltz; a sister, Delores Halderman and a brother, Robert Paltz.
