She was born Sylvia Jean Gould on January 23, 1944 in Sioux City, the daughter of John (Jack) and Dorothy (Peterson) Gould.  She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1962, and attended Iowa State University from 1962 – 1964.  She married Brian K. Elerick of Jefferson, Iowa on January 13, 1974.  They had one child, David A. Elerick.

Ms. Elerick previously served on the board of Siouxland Youth Athletics, and the Advisory Board of the Siouxland Chapter of the Red Cross.  She enjoyed being with her family, getting together with friends frequently, writing, reading, playing bridge, and discussing politics.
