Douglas P. Bales, 64 of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Douglas was born on August 27, 1953 in Sioux City to Eugene and Frances (Nelson) Bales. He received his education in the Sioux City Schools, graduating from East High with the Class of 1971. Doug continued his education at West Iowa Technical Community College with a degree in Architectural Drafting and Design in 1973. On November 27, 1977, Doug married Peggy Raymond in Onawa, Iowa. The couple later divorced.
Douglas worked for Sabre Communication and other tower companies before retiring early due to unrelated health problems. During his career, Doug did tower work in foreign countries. He enjoyed classic cars, canoeing, camping and tinkering around with woodwork. He found his greatest joy in his time fishing and spending time with family. His attention to detail will not be forgotten.
Douglas is survived by his son Curt Norby and his significant other Monica Jessen of Sioux City; daughter Heather Bargar and her husband Casey of Guys Mills, PA; daughter Patricia Bales and her significant other Joseph Quinones of Des Moines, IA; brother Daniel Bales of Sioux City, IA; grandson Branin; granddaughters Sky, Rylee, and Alana; nephew Carlton Acker; niece Melissa Berg and her husband Jay; a great nephew and 2 great nieces.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Sherry Bales, and great nephew Isaac Acker.
