Daryl M. Brown, 84 of Sioux City passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at a local hospital.
There will be no visitation. Services for the family will be held at a later date with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Daryl was born September 12, 1933 in Sioux City; he was the son of Marvin “Brownie” and Helen (Sampers) Brown. He attended Sioux City Schools and graduated from Central High School. Daryl then served in the U.S. Army being stationed in Korea.
After returning home, he met his beloved wife Bonnie Holden, a Lutheran student nurse. They were married July 27, 1956 in Sioux City and to this union 2 children were born, Keith and Kari.
Daryl was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. One of Daryl’s first jobs was working for Irv Givot at the Westside Market. He was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union. Daryl worked for Temptrol and Interstate Mechanical. Upon retiring, he enjoyed working on the grounds crew at Dakota Dunes Golf Course.
Daryl was an avid golfer. He enjoyed hunting in the fields around Early, IA with his cherished uncle Dutch Sampers. Daryl loved fishing, fast pitch softball and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved playing cribbage with all his family. Anyone who knew Daryl would tell you he had a bright smile and a warm heart.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Bonnie Brown of Sioux City; a son Keith Brown of Sioux City; a daughter Kari Okereafor and her husband Alex and their daughters Uchenna, Adamma and Chioma all of West Des Moines, IA; a brother Donald “Butch” Brown of West Des Moines, IA; a sister Diane Boswell of Camarillo, CA; a sister in law Barbara Wrightson of Trimont, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Eldon and Warren both pilots in the service of their country.
