Mary Bjorkman

July 9, 1929 — March 12, 2018

Mary L. Bjorkman, 88 of Sioux City passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 at a local care facility. 

Private family graveside services will be held at the Good Hope Cemetery in rural Cherokee, IA.

Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. 

Mary was born July 9, 1929 in Chicago, IL; she was the daughter of J. Albert and Ida (Nilson) Bjorkman.

Mary graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City and worked as an LPN in Sioux City Hospitals.  She was fondly known as “Boots” by her coworkers. 

She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and the Carpenters Auxiliary. 

Mary enjoyed reading, traveling (Sweden), crocheting, quilting, and fishing.  Mary was very proud of her Swedish heritage.  Her specialty was her Swedish pancakes, which she was happy to make for her nieces and nephews when they came to visit.  She had a wonderful sense of humor.  One of her favorite sayings was, “We’re off like a herd of turtles!” 

Survivors include four nephews: Dale Bjorkman (Mary) of Sioux City, Tye Bjorkman (Sandy) of Edgewood, NM, Shay Bjorkman of Silver City, NM, and Blaine Bjorkman (Cecelia) of Edgewood, NM, Sister in law Doris Bjorkman (Earl) of Edgewood, NM, and niece Diane Bjorkman of Sioux City, IA.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews to the fourth generation.  

Mary was preceded in death by an infant brother, Clarence and an infant sister, Martha, 2 other brothers Glenn and Earl Bjorkman, a sister Alice Kinsella and a niece Joyce Leckband. 

The family would like to thank the past and present staff at Touchstone Living Center and Hospice of Siouxland for their care and support.
