Eva Joy Johns

   Eva Joy Johns, 88, of Sioux City, IA formerly of Hinton died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital.

   Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Reverend Kenny Hsu officiating.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

   Eva Joy Alfreda (Thorne) Johns, the daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth (Eriksen) Thorne, was born August 26, 1929 in Homer, NE.  She grew up on the family farm near Homer and attended District 43 Country School starting in 1938.  Eva Joy graduated from South Sioux City High School in May of 1947.

   On May 4, 1947, Eva Joy was united in marriage to Delbert Johns in Marysville, KS and this union was blessed with three children.  After marriage, they made their home in Hinton, Correctionville, on the family farm near Homer and then returned to the Hinton area.  She worked as a bookkeeper and in sales at Knapp and Spencer, Scoular Grain and Jarco Builders.  Eva Joy and Delbert made their home on a farm near Hinton then moved into Hinton for eight years and in recent years lived at Whispering Creek Senior Living.

   Eva Joy enjoyed quilting and gardening.  In her younger years, she was active in 4-H and won the Grand Champion Calf at the Nebraska State Fair.  Eva Joy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and D.A.R.

   Eva Joy is survived by her husband, Delbert Johns; one son, Dennis (Mary) Johns of Green Valley, AZ; two daughters, Sharon (Daryl) Heimgartner of Sioux City and Linda (Robert) Greene of Hinton; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother in infancy, Douglas Thorne and one sister, Darlene (Robert) Padel.

   Pallbearers will be Eva Joy’s grandchildren: Todd Johns, Tracy Cross, Heather Johns, Jacque Holloway, Randall Heimgartner, Travis Heimgartner, David Heimgartner, Jason Greene, Chad Greene and Shannon Greene.
