Penny was a Thanksgiving Day baby, born on November 27, 1952 in Sioux City, the daughter of Gilford “Gil” and Joyce (Janson) Bennett. She graduated from East High School in 1971. Penny married Roger Burgett on April 28, 1973 in Sioux City. The couple moved to Boyden, Iowa in 1988 and lived there for 11 years, returning to Sioux City in 1999.
Penny worked for Natural Beauty Greenhouse formally DenHoed’s Greenhouse in the mid 1990’s. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and loved her time volunteering at The Heritage at Northern Hills.
Penny was very artistic and enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, sewing, and photography. Some of her work won ribbons at the Woodbury County Fair, which she enjoyed attending with her grandkids. Family and friends were very important to Penny, but her greatest pride, joy, and love were her four grandchildren.
