Rudy C. Buchholz, 82, of Elk Point, formerly of Sioux City, passed away, Friday, February 16, 2018. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rudy was born the son of Erwin and Bertha (Guthmiller) Buchholz on November 19, 1935 in Tripp, South Dakota. He graduated from Tripp High School and then enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1955 to 1960. He spent time in Germany and also guarded the President’s helicopter with full security clearance.
Rudy lived in Wisconsin for five years before settling in Sioux City, where he lived until his health declined.
He was a machinist for many years, retiring from Sioux Tools. Rudy enjoyed car mechanics, books, hunting, fishing, and telescopes.
Rudy is survived by two sons, Rick (Annie) Smith of Ray Ohio and Joe Smith of Wisconsin; one brother, Gerald Buchholz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sisters, Arlene (Dan) Nyreen of North Sioux City, South Dakota and Lillian Hauck of Creswell, Oregon; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Lonnie; and two sisters, Shirley and LaVonne.
