December 13, 1937 — February 11, 2018

   Joyce J. McBride, 80, of rural Smithland, IA formerly of Sioux City died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital.

   Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, IA with Pastor Chris LaBoube officiating.  Burial will follow at Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland.  Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) in Sioux City with a prayer service at 7 p.m.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

   Joyce JoAnn, the daughter of Chris and Johanna (Harms) Brekke, was born December 13, 1937 in Sioux City.  Joyce grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.  Following graduation, she worked at a local insurance adjustment firm.

   On October 11, 1958, Joyce was united in marriage to Bernard P. McBride at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City.  This union was blessed with two sons, Mike and Doug.  Joyce worked for a Sioux City law firm as a legal stenographer for 47 years until her retirement.  In 2000, Joyce and Bernard moved from Sioux City to an acreage near Smithland, IA.

   Joyce enjoyed reading, family vacations and caring for her cats and dogs.  She truly enjoyed being on the acreage and going for drives.   She had been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church while living in Sioux City.  After moving, she was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton and had been active in the bell choir and was a Sunday School Teacher.

   Joyce is survived by her husband, Bernard McBride of rural Smithland; two sons: Mike (Penny) McBride of Pierson, IA and Doug McBride of Springfield, SD; five grandchildren: Kristopher (Amber) Goeden of Waukee, IA, Tyler McBride, Casey McBride and Savannah McBride all of Sioux City and Shelby McBride of Sioux Falls, SD; two great grandchildren: Krew and Slater Goeden of Waukee, IA; one brother, Arlen Brekke of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Diane Probst of Sioux City; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

   She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Phillip Brekke.
