Roger R. Ericksen

March 1, 1945 — February 7, 2018

Roger R. Ericksen, 72, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Father Daniel Rupp will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, February 9, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and a vigil at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Roger was the only son of Elmer and Mabel (Connor) Ericksen and was born March 1, 1945 in Battle Creek, Iowa. He was raised in Ida Grove, Iowa, where he attended schools and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Army and served at various locations in the U.S. and Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1966.

Roger received additional training at St Joseph Hospital as an x-ray technologist and this is where he met his future wife Nancy. He married Nancy Hosch on June 21, 1969 in Randolph, Nebraska.

Roger and Nancy moved to Duluth, MN before returning to Sioux City where Roger began a career with St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center. Roger served as head of the Nuclear Medicine Department at St. Luke’s until retiring in 2013.

Roger enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, feeding birds and annoying the squirrels. He also enjoyed wood working, his tools, yard work, watching classic shows and the neighbor’s dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ericksen of Sioux City; four sons, Brett (Karla) Ericksen of Le Mars, Iowa, Grant (Annette) Ericksen of DeWitt, Iowa, Trent (Bryna) Ericksen of Liberty, Missouri, and Kyle Ericksen of Sioux City; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Ericksen, Noah Ericksen, Maegan Ericksen, and Katie Ericksen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Andrew Ericksen.
