Carol Ann (Stone) Sundquist, 70, of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Holy Cross Parish Blessed Sacrament. Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2018, from 4 to 8 P.M. with family present from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Vigil service at 7 P.M., all held at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.
Carol was born the daughter of Frank and Winifred (Bernard) Stone on August 19, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Heelan High in 1965 and Briar Cliff in 1970 with a B.A. in English, Journalism, and Literature. Carol married Ramon Sundquist on August 3, 1974 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
After graduating from Briar Cliff, Carol taught at Westwood Jr. High in Sloan, Iowa; Bancroft High School from 1974 to 1982; and she retired from Blessed Sacrament/Holy Cross School in May of 2013 after teaching there for 31 years.
Carol enjoyed reading, cooking, diagramming sentences, and spending time with her friends and family. She loved visiting with former students and would always prepare enough food to feed a small army. In recent years, her granddaughters brought her much joy.
Carol is survived by her husband, Ramon Sundquist of Sioux City; two daughters, Deborah (Tim) O’Malley of Clay, New York and Megan Brown of LeMars, Iowa; granddaughters, Katherine, Abigail, and Samantha O’Malley of Clay, New York; and Olivia and Sophia Brown of LeMars, Iowa; one sister, Roberta Rozell of Elk Point, South Dakota; extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, E.E. “Puck” Rozell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sioux City Catholic Schools.
