Jeffrey Knute “Jeff” Highman, 75 of Sioux City, died on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, after succumbing to complications from multiple sclerosis and lung cancer. He was surrounded by family. Abiding by family wishes, cremation will take place and private family services will be held. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. www.meyerbroschapels.com Jeff was born on May 31, 1942, at the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City to M. Bethene (Green) and Alex S. Highman. He attended Sioux City Public Schools, and graduated from Benson High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
Jeff enlisted in the United States Army following graduation. He was a radarman stationed in Chicago, Illinois during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Jeff was later stationed in Germersheim, Germany, where he met his wife Barbara. They were married in Omaha, Nebraska on October 17, 1965.
Jeff worked as a machinist at All Power. He retired in 2001 due to his multiple sclerosis. Due to his mobility issues, the computer and TV were a godsend for him. He was a kind and gentle man.
Jeff was a good listener and his wise words will be missed. Jeff is survived by his wife Barbara (Zoeppel) of Sioux City; twin daughters Stephanie (Steve) Maurer of Sioux City and Natalie (Stacy Butts) Highman of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren Danielle and Cory Maurer of Boulder, Colorado; and sister Alexandra Sprague of Sioux City.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Erik G. Highman, and his brother-in-law Larry Sprague.
