Gustave M. “Gus” Bohlmann, 85, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones.
Services will 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Gus was born on July 21, 1932 in Utica, SD to Gustave W. and Clara (Diede) Bohlmann. After graduating from Yankton High School, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Following his time in the service, he moved to Great Falls, Montana to work.
On October 8, 1955, he married Patricia A. Rohmiller in Great Falls. The couple made their home in Sioux City where they raised 5 children. Gus was employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad for 35 years, working mostly in Sioux City except for a few years he spent in Fargo, ND and Birmingham, AL. He retired in 1987 and the couple returned to Sioux City. Patricia passed away in May 1991.
Gus married Hettie Crum in April 1993 and they enjoyed many years together. They lived in Sioux City but wintered for several years in Arizona and Texas where Gus enjoyed being on a bowling league and a pool league, and also participated in numerous group bicycle rides.
Gus was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. As a youth, he was confirmed at Martinus Lutheran Church in rural Utica, South Dakota. He stayed active in his later years mowing the Martinus Church cemetery with his brothers and nephews.
Gus’ hobbies included spending time with family, restoring antique cars, yardwork and carpentry. His hands were never idle.
Survivors include his wife Hettie; children: Kathryn “Kathie” (Burt Jr.) Chase of Sioux City, Gustave “Willie” (Annette) of Hayden, AL; Connie (Keith) Kroksh of Ashland, NE; Mark (Judy) Bohlmann of Ankeny, IA; and Keith Bohlmann of Sioux City; siblings: Beverly (Eugene) Bartels of Tobias, NE; Karen Johnson of Wausau, NE; Roger (Frances) Bohlmann of Green River, WY; and Cliff Bohlmann of Viborg, SD; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gus is also survived by Hettie’s children: Lee (Kathie) Crum, Diane (Terry) Foister, Janet (Greg) Wall, Judy (Gerry) Teeven, Debra (Lee) Baybay and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Patricia; his sisters, Mae Wagner, Irene Gross, LaVerne Hayes and Myla Buschelmann; his brothers, Reinhold Bohlmann and Burnell Bohlmann; and his grandson, Luke Kroksh.
