Laurence E. "Larry" Thompson

Laurence E. “Larry” Thompson, 82, of Sioux City, passed away, Friday, December 22, 2017. A memorial visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.
Larry was born the son of Laurence L. and Lena (Valentine) Thompson on October 14, 1935 in Durango, Colorado. He graduated from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado with a degree in Petroleum Refining Engineering in 1958. After his schooling, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Larry married Colene Reynolds on January 2, 1965 in Durango, Colorado. They made their home in Sioux City from 1969 until Larry’s retirement allowed them to travel as he did consulting work around the country.
Larry worked for Terra Industries for over twenty years where he retired as Vice President of Manufacturing.
He was very passionate about the work that he did. He also enjoyed rooting for the Denver Broncos and attending his granddaughter’s activities.
Larry was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Larry is survived by his wife, Colene Thompson of Sioux City; son, Michael Thompson of Colombia, Missouri; daughter, Tanya (Pat) Breyfogle of Sioux City; brother, Chuck Thompson of Grand Junction, Colorado; sister, Jackie (Don) Britt of Glendale, Arizona; six grandchildren, Melissa Alkhaibari of Colorado, Teah Thompson of Kansas, Nicholas Thompson of Nebraska, Wendi Chambers of Kansas, Travis Thompson of Iowa, Rebekah Breyfogle of Sioux City, and Brooke Breyfogle of Sioux City; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dann; and sister-in-law, Carol.
