Leon J. “Curly” Collette, 96 of Sioux City passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at a local care facility after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Terry Roder will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. There will be a rosary recited by the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus at 6:30 P.M. Tuesday and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Curly was born September 4, 1921 in Aurora, KS; he was the son of Joseph and Irene (Corville) Collette. Curly moved to South Dakota in 1939 and then to Sioux City in 1948.
On November 22, 1948, Curly married Mary June Holck in Sioux City; she passed away March 15, 1992. On August 29, 1995, Curly married Wanda R. Potter and she passed away on October 22, 2002.
Curly worked for Haley Fruit, Palmer Fruit and then retired from Holmes & Hudson in December of 1986.
He was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus.
Curly enjoyed fishing in Canada, golfing and traveling.
Survivors include a brother Clifford Collette and his wife Joanne of North Sioux City, SD; 3 step daughters: Theresa, Katy and Patty; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Curly was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, an infant sister Betty, 2 brothers Wilber “Red” Collette and Francis Collette, a sister Geneva Strand and a step daughter Molly.
