Kit was born in Sioux City Iowa July 31, 1932. He was a proud Eagle Scout and graduated from Central High School in 1952 and Morningside College in 1956. Kit and his brother and parents built a cabin on the north shore of Spirit Lake in 1954, in part because his parents didn’t want him trailering boats back and forth! Kit built and restored many wooden boats, creating great fun for all “at the lake”.
He met his future wife, Sue, in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1957. They were married in 1960 and established their home in Sioux City. In 1966, Kit and Sue purchased their current residence, a five acre “farm” in rural Hinton, where Kit restored the farmhouse. Kit loved road trips, and with Sue and his children, toured 46 states, visiting distant relatives, touring antique car museums, riding steam trains at every opportunity and making life long memories.
His entire career was in Sioux City at Larsen’s Printing, where he was the President until he retired in 2004. One of his life’s works was the 25 annual Sioux City calendars, filled with old photos selected, captioned, printed by his own hand. Kit was a member of the Sioux City Business Leaders and the Rotary Club.
Kit was a devoted Morningside College sports fan, often traveling great distances to attend basketball games. Kit belonged to several antique automobile clubs, served as President of the Tri-State Crankers, owned multiple old cars over the years, and in his retirement toured nationally with Sue and his prize winning 1912 Model T Ford roadster with a mother-in-law seat. Kit was also an amateur radio operator – KA0EGJ—and a weather spotter.
Kit was an Elder at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hinton and a member for over 50 years. He served as treasurer of the Lutheran Layman’s League, Iowa District West. He lived a life of deep faith, praying every day for his loved ones and many others.
Kit was preceded in death by his parents Chris jr and Esther (Meyer) Larsen, his brother, Carl Larsen, and his brother-in-law, Richard Zuehlke.
Kit is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Suzanne Zuehlke Larsen; his daughter, Christine of Montclair, NJ and her husband Vincent Dopulos and his son Erik Larsen of Sioux City and his wife Linda: seven grandchildren: Catherine Bryan (Ben) , Sarah Jimenez (Kenneth), Katherine Dopulos, Mary Larsen, Phoebe Dopulos, Lincoln Larsen, and Grace Larsen; and two great grandchildren Aiden and Hazel Jimenez. Kit is also survived by his sister-in-laws Beverly Larsen and Carol Zuehlke, his special cousin Mary Erkonen, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in Kit’s Memory to Trinity Lutheran Church and Sioux City Gospel Mission.
