Vivian Angeline Oertel, 95, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at a local care center.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.
Vivian was born March 6, 1922 in Ponca, NE the daughter of Harvey W. and Helen (Wheeler) Rager. She graduated from Coleridge, Nebraska High School in 1939 and attended N.B.T., a business college in Sioux City. She married H.V. Gier on April 12, 1941. The couple later divorced. She married Lee Oertel on June 6, 1963 in Pipestone, MN. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1981 in Sioux City.
Vivian worked as a bookkeeper for Iowa Foundry, Style Master Manufacturing, and Advance Industries for 19 years before retirement. She was an amateur Lapidary, and was a member of the Gem and Mineral Society.
Vivian is survived by her son Merlin V. Gier of Alcester, SD; two granddaughters Sherry (Doug) Williams of Sioux City; and Jessica VanThuyne of Alcester, SD; three great grandchildren: Marcus (Heather) Williams, Michael (Cassie) Williams, and Felicia Williams; and six great great grandchildren: Collin Williams, Cortana Williams, Beau Williams, Ryker Williams, Zoey Junck, and Charlie Junck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, daughter Rita VanThuyne, brothers Harold “Bud” Rager and Darrell Rager, and a sister Beverly Rager.
