John H. Myers, 87, of Elk Point, SD formerly of Sioux City died Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Holstein, IA surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2017, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave) in Sioux City.  Military honors will be presented at the funeral home.  Private family burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com

John Henry Myers, son of George Edwin and Blanche (Maxwell) Myers, was born June 28, 1930, in Rodney, Iowa.  He grew up in Rodney and attended school in Smithland.  On August 14, 1951, John was inducted into the United States Army and he served during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on May 14, 1953.

On December 24, 1951, John was united in marriage to Dora Jane Davis in Onawa, Iowa and this union was blessed with three children.  The family made their home in Sioux City.  John worked for various packing plants and retired from IBP after several years of employment.  Dora passed away on October 7, 1989.

On August 11, 1991, John married Eva Brown in Elk Point, South Dakota.  They made their home in Elk Point until their health began to fail and they moved closer to Eva’s daughter, Joyce.

John enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He truly loved the outdoors where he spent many hours on the river and at the farm.

John is survived by his wife, Eva Myers formerly of Elk Point, SD; two sons: Michael (Yolanda) Myers of Eau Claire, WI and Daniel (Carla) Myers of Sioux City, IA; one daughter, Lori (John) Carrillo of Las Vegas, NV; four step daughters: Fay (Royce) Miller of Anthon, IA, Joyce (Keith) Sevening of Cushing, IA, Cathy (Bradley) Hamlin of Torrington, WY and Sharon Brown of Elk Point, SD; seven grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dora; step son, Alan Brown; 6 sisters and one brother.
