Wayne L. Johnson, 72 of Hinton, IA passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017 surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday at Crescent Park United Methodist Church. Rev. Scott Squires will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Wayne was born August 25, 1945 in Sioux City; he was the son of Byrnes and Esther Johnson. Wayne grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1963. On July 17, 1964, Wayne married Bonnie Gaynor in Sioux City.
Wayne worked for a short time for the Des Moines Register in the Sioux City office under Jack Dam. He then began a lifelong career in the automotive industry having worked his last 28 years for Hoak Motors retiring as their sales manager.
Wayne was a longtime member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and going to the Sturgis Rallies for over 30 years. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and dogs. He loved to play tennis and poker. Wayne loved the fun times & laughter spent with his family on Sunday gatherings & Holidays. He was also very grateful and felt blessed for the donation of life when on October 5, 2011, his daughter in law Julie donated her kidney to him.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Hinton, IA; his children: Suzanne Bousquet (Jeff) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Lisa Brazzell (Mark) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Douglas Wayne Johnson (Julie) of Hinton, IA, Craig Johnson (Nicole) of Sioux City; his mother Esther Johnson of Sioux City; brother: Al (Beverly) Johnson of Hinton, IA; 6 grandchildren: Kelsey Montange (Austin), Bryce Hanson, Zach Brazzell, Trenton Wayne Brazzell, Taylor Johnson and Jonathon Johnson. Wayne is also survived by a great grandchild on the way, due in January of 2018; sisters-in-law: Cindy Johnson, Lori Gaynor and her daughter, Jamie Jennings all of Sioux City; brothers-in-law: Ed (Sis) Gaynor of Dakota City, Neb. and Alan Gaynor of Los Cabo, Mexico; and his dogs Maggie and Mazie.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father Byrnes, a brother Bruce and a granddaughter Danielle.
