Darin Scott Machan, 46 of Dakota Dunes, SD passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha after suffering a stroke.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 27th at Sunnybrook Community Church, 5601 Sunnybrook Dr., Sioux City, IA 51106. Pastor B.J. Van Kalsbeek will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, November 26th with a time of sharing starting at 6:00 P.M. at the Church. Darin was born November 21, 1970 in Pittsfield, IL; he was the son of Gary and Carlette-Rhea (Hanke) Machan. Darin attended Storm Lake High School and graduated from East High School in Sioux City in 1989. He graduated from Iowa State University in May of 1995 with Bachelor of Science Degrees in Ag Business and Public Service Administration and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Darin grew up in Perry, IA, and then lived in Fremont, NE and Storm Lake, IA before moving to Sioux City in 1986. He has lived at Dakota Dunes, SD since 2003 and has been employed by IBP/Tyson Foods since 1995. On October 19, 2002, Darin married Amy Keller in Sioux City. Born of this union in 2004 were twin sons, Joshua Michael and Peyton Scott Machan. Together, they continued to co parent their sons.
Although Darin’s time was short, he led a very active life. Darin was a proud devoted father and was active in both sons’ activities. They enjoyed bike riding, cooking, theatre, snow skiing, water sports, and golfing; and Darin particularly liked coaching his boys’ basketball teams. Darin, Josh and Peyton are avid Nebraska Cornhusker fans and loved going to games together.
Darin had an infectious personality that people gravitated towards. He really loved making new friends wherever his adventures led him. Among his many travels, he could be spotted at sporting events, concerts and the Iowa State Fair; and he was a renowned dancer. Darin thrived on organizing activities among his vast number of friends.
Darin and his sons attended Sunnybrook Community Church.
Survivors include his 13-year-old twin sons, Joshua and Peyton; his parents: Gary and Carlette-Rhea Machan of Dakota Dunes, SD; his brother: Brian Machan (Jen Bauer) of Ankeny, IA; nephew: Mason; niece: Bailey both of Ankeny, IA; Uncle: Bill Lewandowski of Wausau, WI; Uncle: Tom Machan (Linda Webster) of Coloma, WI; Aunt: Vicki Hawkins (John) of Valrico, FL; Aunt: Jeanine Machan of Brooklyn Park, MN; and numerous other relatives, friends and fraternity brothers.
Darin was preceded in death by his grandparents Carl & June Hanke and Robert & Hazel Machan and his aunt Mary Lewandowski.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Darin Machan’s name at Security National Bank, 325 Dakota Dunes Blvd. Dakota Dunes, SD 57049.
