Douglas Wayne Johnson, 91 of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 20, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Tom Murray officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the United States Navy Reserve and a rifle salute offered by the Monahan-Nelson Post 64 American Legion Members. Visitation will be Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Douglas was born March 9, 1926 in Sioux City; he was the son of David and Alice (Anderson) Johnson. He graduated from Central High School in 1944. Douglas served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Gilbert Island in the Pacific from 1944 to 1946. In 1947, Douglas married Ruby L McNaughton, and after 64 years of marriage, she passed away in 2012. After his discharge from the navy, Douglas went to work alongside his father at Johnson Automatic Music Co. (a coin operated amusement machine company) in Sioux City. He and Ruby worked there until they sold the company in 1990.
Douglas was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, The American Legion Monahan Post # 64, Masonic Landmark Lodge, Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine, Order of the Jester and the Oriental Band. Douglas was a private pilot and flew children to Shriners Children’s Hospitals around the country. He and Ruby loved to travel and visited many parts of the world and as well as our country. He was an amateur radio operator and enjoyed fishing, hunting, fixing anything and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his 2 sons: Dr. Paul Johnson and his wife Patrice of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Dr. David Johnson of Great Falls, MT; six grandchildren: Erika Peterson, Wendy Rykowski, Nikolina, Luke, Eric and Annika Johnson; 2 great grandchildren: Kaylee and Jesimae Rykowski; a brother Bruce Johnson and his wife June of Flagstaff, AZ.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby and a sister Betty Forney.
Casket Bearers for the service will be Eric Johnson, Luke Johnson, Clay McNaughton, Brian McNaughton, Craig McNaughton, and Jack Krage.
