Wallace D. Youds

March 28, 1929 — October 22, 2017

Wallace D. Youds, age 88, of Sioux Falls, SD died Oct. 22, 2017.  He was united in marriage to Nancy Jeanne Cline on May 16, 1954 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sioux City, Iowa.

Wally lived his younger years in Sioux City, Iowa graduating from Central High School.  He enlisted in the Navy, and upon completing his service to our country, graduated from the Dunwoody Technical School in Minneapolis.  He spent the rest of his adult working life at various newspapers in the composing room, over forty years of which was with the Sioux City Journal.  Wally and Nancy moved into Touchmark three years ago and enjoyed the community of friends that touched them.

Wally, in addition to his education and employment, gave his all too many areas of his life: his faith, family, friends, and community. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, a Mason belonging to the North Riverside Masonic Lodge in Sioux City, and a member of the American Legion. Wally especially enjoyed being a part of his children and grandchildren’s lives through the years, sometimes spending many hours on the road to do so. As a diehard Hawkeye fan he loved attending many Hawk football games at Kinnick Stadium. During the fall and winter, if there was a Hawkeye game on, undoubtedly, he would be wearing his black and yellow sweats and texting family and friends updates and commentary.

He was a wonderful role model as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and child of God.  His sense of humor, desire to help those around him, and warm smile will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of 64 years, two sons and their spouses:  Bob (Eileen) of Burke, SD and Richard (Kendra) of Marshalltown, Iowa.

There are six grandchildren: Nick Youds of Ames, Iowa; Patrick Youds of Ankeny, Iowa; Brooke (Matt) Murphy of Sioux Falls, SD; Ben (Emily) Youds of Vaxjo, Sweden; Jaci and Madison Hardman of Marshalltown, Iowa.  There are three great grandsons: Gavin and Graham Murphy of Sioux Falls, SD and Emmett Youds of Vaxjo, Sweden.
