Arlo E. Fay, 86, of Sioux City died Friday, November 10, 2017, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at St. Michael Catholic Church (2223 Indian Hills Dr.) in Sioux City with Father David Hemann, Celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Arlo, the son of Harold and Alice (Detgen) Fay, was born March 31, 1931 in Cherry County, NE. He attended Crookston High School in Crookston, NE. After high school, he joined the Air Force and served for 41 years until his retirement on March 29, 1991. He retired as Senior Master Sergeant in the 185th Air National Guard. During his service years, he attended West Texas State College. Arlo also worked at Armour/Dress Pork from 1960 to 1974.
On February 11, 1956, Arlo was united in marriage to Madonna Conley at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City and this union was blessed with five children.
Arlo was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the American Legion. He served on the Headid Little League Board for many years while coaching many levels of baseball. In addition, he coached women's and men's softball for many years and was an avid bowler. The thing he loved most was watching his kids and grandchildren play sports.
Arlo is survived by his wife of 61 years Madonna Fay of Sioux City; two daughters, Dana (Jerry) Jurgensmeier and Diane Fay both of Sioux City; three sons, Darin (Mary Jo) Fay, Dave Fay and Doug (Jean) Fay all of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Delpherine Harris of Hillsboro, OH and Glenys Breuklander of Tahlequah, OK; and one brother, Wilbur Fay of Crookston, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Maxine Ford; one brother, Bernard Fay and several in-laws.
Pallbearers for Arlo’s service will be his six grandsons: Logan Jurgensmeier, Collin Jurgensmeier, Tregg Fay, Geoff Fay, Eric Fay and Cameron Fay.
