Mary Elizabeth Torno, 81, of Sioux City IA passed away on November 7, 2017.
Mary was born Jan. 11, 1936 in Struble, IA to Joseph and Laura Schimberg. She was the oldest of 5 children, 4 girls and 1 boy.
On June 15, 1957, Mary married Donald Torno and they owned and operated D&M Upholstery for many years.
At the age of 65, Mary decided she wanted to learn how to play the organ so she purchased an organ and started taking lessons. She shared her love for music by volunteering at nursing homes playing the organ and singing. Mary always had her handiwork with her, always knitting and crocheting, making hats and gloves for needy children
Mary is survived by her three children, Duwanna Chesley and husband Rick, Robert Torno, and Daniel Torno and his wife Carolyn; her sisters, Barbara Claussen and Joan Atwood and her husband Claire; 4 grandsons; 3 great grandsons and 3 great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister and brother.
The service will be held 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Presbyterian Church on Friday November 10, 2017 located at 4327 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, IA 51106. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. There will be a luncheon served after the immediate family returns from Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mary Torno’s name can be made to Faith United Presbyterian Church.
Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
