Frank D. Gruenzner, 80, of Sioux City died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in Omaha, NE.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (3012 Jackson St.) in Sioux City. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Blvd.) with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.
Franklin D. “Frank”, the son of Frank David and Emelia Luella (Markuson) Gruenzner, was born October 22, 1937 in Armour, SD. Frank grew up in Armour and graduated from Armour High School. While in high school, he was an exceptional athlete in basketball, football and track and received college scholarship offers in these sports.
On January 14, 1956, Frank married Shirley M. Klein in Armour and this union was blessed with two children, Randy and Debra. After their marriage, the couple lived in Windom and Pipestone, MN. In 1958, they moved to Sioux Falls, where they resided until their move to Sioux City in 1972. Frank was employed with Metz Baking Company for 41 years until retiring in 1999 as Vice President of Sales. In addition, Frank and Shirley operated an accounting and tax service business for many years.
Frank was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, golfing and traveling. Above all, he enjoyed his triplet grandsons.
Frank is survived by one son, Randy Gruenzner of Sioux City; one daughter and her husband, Debra and Rick Homan of Omaha; three grandsons, Travis, Jared and Corey Homan all of Omaha; one sister, Rita Peterson of Minneapolis, MN; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley on October 31, 2007; and one sister, Theone Rogers.
