Alberta Spaulding

Alberta G. Spaulding, 89, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from complications following hip replacement surgery.  

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com. 

Alberta G. Connell came into this world on August 12, 1928.  A child of Mary Leona (Snyder) Connell and John Albert Connell.  She was educated in the local schools and after graduating from Central High School she resided in Sioux City throughout her life.  Alberta had three sons, Thomas, Michael and David Brienzo during her first marriage.  She later married Boyd Spaulding and they enjoyed 43 years together until Boyd’s passing in 2002.  Upon the death of her sister Lucille, Alberta and Boyd adopted her three daughters into their family.  They were Dorothea, Peggy Joyce and Mary Beth Bradshaw.  She worked as a department manager at Sears and then Walgreens.  

Alberta enjoyed a very active life.  She was active in many police related organizations.  She served as president on both the local and state police auxiliaries.  She was particularly proud of her work managing the advertising and editing of the Iowa Chief of Police and Peace Officers Association magazine.  She was an avid boater, spending many years camping on the river and participating in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the River Cade organization and the Harbor Boat Club.  She also participated in both bowling and golfing organizations.  Then of course she loved playing cards, and all while enjoying many, many hours helping to raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

Her immediate family consisted of six children, eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
