Michael Skaff Sr., 83, passed away unexpectantly on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at his home in Sioux City. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 16, 2017 at St. Thomas Orthodox Church, 1100 Jones Street, Sioux City, IA. Visitation will be Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery.
Michael was born April 3, 1934 in Sioux City, the son of Mike and Delia (Ellis) Skaff. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools, graduating from East High School in 1952.
Michael married Barbara Rush on August 27, 1960. They were married until she passed away in 2011. They had 2 children Michael Jr. and Julie (Skaff) Gregg, both of Sioux City.
Except for a short stint in the army, Mike worked at Skaff Service Station, a full service station which was owned by his father from 1937 until his passing in 1994. Following his father’s passing, he took over ownership of the station until his retirement in 2004. In his retirement he enjoyed coffee with the gang, working in the yard, fishing, and traveling with his children. Between his years at the station and his retirement, he accumulated a wonderful bunch of friends.
Survivors include his children, Michael Skaff Jr. and his partner, John Crosthwait of Sioux City and Julie Gregg and her husband, Michael of Sioux City; Two sisters, Delia Jones of LaValle WI and Jeanette Clair and her husband, Ralph of Phoenix AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; and two sisters, Donna Brienzo and Mollie Malenoski.
